Pets usually get into the act in the course of filming a memoir or portrait documentary of their humans. They are family members, too, and they usually know it.

Sometimes their unconditional love enriches our lives as much as our human
relationships do. So it's no wonder that beloved pets are popular subjects in their own right.

More than any other family heirloom, this highly customized form documentary-making offers a powerful source of comfort and strength when any loved
one, four-legged or two, is no longer with us.

Since 1982, I have been asked to tell the stories of individuals, couples, families, clans, and organizations of many kinds to preserve the faces, voices, values and animals that matter most to them.

Your Story Matters uses family storytelling, interviews, conversations, and all the mementos you can provide such as photos, home movies, music, poetry, and artwork to create your Pet Movie. We offer as much guidance as you would like to clarify what you want to include and what you want your Pet Movie to express.

My passion for creating a visual and audio record of rituals, celebrations, and conversations from every stage of life from giving birth to the end of life grew out of an early interest in anthropology, spirituality, and ways of life that differed from my own.

"Carlyn Saltman has a real gift for editing in the camera.  Her raw tapes look polished.  I don't know how she does it!  She has the uncanny knack for being in the right place at the right time with the right lighting at the perfect angle.

Her skill is a very valuable documenting technique applicable to a variety of circumstances.  In our case, she captured young girls in the process of making an improvisational movie.  We were able to show her unedited, two-hour tape at a trade show.  It was a very effective way to illustrate the power of our work with girls."
